John Roloff & Diller + Scofidio

    John Roloff:

I fell especially attuned to working with Liz and Ric on this project. We all have a strong interest in process, materials and extending the language and the possibilities we are working with, both of architecture and art.

    Diller + Scofidio:

    SNOW SHOW THEMES:

    1. Climate Model:

    Designer Snow

    Antithetical climates/reversal/gradient

    1. Climate Model:

    Designer Snow

    Antithetical climates/reversal/gradient

    Paleo-climates

Architecture as a regulation of climate/ environmental control

    Domestication of climate-without walls

    2. Production/Consumption:

    Self consuming/constructing structure

    Self-organizing system/emergent properties

    Three states of matter

    3. The Normal:

    Cryogenics/Preservation:

Ice 'embedded' with foreign bodies —ice becomes critical. (potential for contamination at melting point).

    Building of frozen foods.

    I Acre of paradise:

    Climate controlled hole in space.

Perfect rectangular swatch of clear green grass and rippling sea water kept alive and clear of ice and snow.

space while heating the ground plane so that the snow only exists as snow in an airborne state.

Drive-In Theater with aggressive ice screen.

Row of cars. Synchronized headlights create video projection. Spectacle as viewed in the comfort of well heated automobiles.

Relationship of Fins to their cell-phones, Cell-phones/saunas/vodka.

80 x 80 grid of cell-phones set on vibrate mode. Visitors call numbers to activate, excite, or stimulate snow.
