OBSCURED HORIZONS

2003

Lawrence Weiner & Enrique Norten

Enrique Norten:

The walls will create some interstitial spaces that can be walked and experienced in many different manners by the public (no path defined). Each wall will have inside, in the middle a translucent membrane with a work of art (graphics, text, photo, drawing, painting, etc. ANYTHING, as long as it is basically two-dimensional), creating an overlap of various layers of art information that can be read in various different ways: individual-collective, inside-outside, private public, etcetera.

The viewer will decide in what order, point of view, time, etc. The printed membranes (translucent) inside the ice walls could be proposed by ALL different artists (each wall by a different artist), as a true COLLABORATIVE piece. The final aesthetic experience will be the sum of all of them. This would create also a richer final total experience. (Two of the walls have already been assigned to the co-author of this piece Sofía and Matís-her brother). As the ice walls melts, all this 3 x 3 meters translucent art membranes will come out and will be re-arranged as an exhibition on it's own. Artificial sources of light will be located perpendicular to the walls to enhance the qualities of the translucent membranes, as well as the super-imposition of them all.
